Micro-Hydropower in Nepal: Analysing the Project Process to Understand Drivers that Strengthen and Weaken Sustainability

چکیده

Evaluating the sustainable operation of community-owned and community-operated renewable energy projects is complex. The development a project often depends on actions diverse stakeholders, including government, industry communities. Throughout cycle, these interrelated impact sustainability project. In this paper, typical cycle micro-hydropower plant in Nepal used to demonstrate that key events throughout affect plant’s ability operate sustainably. Through critical analysis available literature, policy documentation interviews with manufacturers, drivers plants are found. Examples include weak specification civil components during tendering, quality control issues manufacture, poor construction trained operators leaving their position. Opportunities minimise both occurrence severity threats identified. For Nepal, recommendations made for specific by relevant stakeholders at appropriate moments cycle. More broadly, findings complex nature developing community requires holistic consideration complete process.

Sustainability assessment of a micro hydropower plant in Nepal

Background: Many rural electrification projects around the world employ micro hydropower plants (MHPs). These installations provide immediate and direct benefits to the local people. However, the sustainability of their operation in the long run remains a vital issue. Without proper sustainability assessment, the projects may face operational problems. However, to date, only a few empirical stu...

Feasibility of Hydrogen Production from Micro Hydropower Projects in Nepal

The current energy crisis in Nepal clearly indicates that the future energy-demand cannot be met by traditional energy-sources. Community-based micro-hydropower operations are considered to be one of the most feasible options for energy development. However, the power plant capacity factor remains very low due to limited commercial and business opportunities. Generation of hydrogen (H2) from th...

Recurrent Cortical Competition: Strengthen or Weaken?

We investigate the short term dynamics of the recurrent competition and neural activity in the primary visual cortex in terms of information processing and in the context of orientation selectivity. We propose that after stimulus onset, the strength of the recurrent excitation decreases due to fast synaptic depression. As a consequence, the network shifts from an initially highly nonlinear to a...

Blobs strengthen repetition but weaken symmetry

The human visual system is more sensitive to symmetry than to repetition. According to the so-called holographic approach [J. Math. Psychol. 35 (1991) 151; Psychol. Rev. 103 (1996) 429; Psychol. Rev. 106 (1999) 622], however, this perceptual difference between symmetry and repetition depends strongly on spatial scaling. This was tested in three experiments, using symmetry and repetition stimuli...

Project to Build Programs That Understand

This extended abstract outlines a project to build computer programs that understand. Understanding a domain is defined as the ability to rapidly produce computer programs to deal with new problems as they arise. This is achieved by building a CAD tool that collaborates with human designers who guide the system to construct code having certain properties. The code respects Occam's Razor, intera...
